"Dakshin Dinajpur Highway Division" was created in 1998, after bifurcation of the then West Dinajpur Highway Division. This Division with its
headquarters at Balurghat, maintains 241.58 Km road-spread over the District. This Division controls two sub-divisions, namely Balurghat Highway Sub-division (headquarter at Balurghat) and Buniadpur Highway Sub-division
(headquarter at Buniadpur). This District is a flood prone area, and the roads suffer from heavy rain and flood during monsoon every year.Most of the roads of this Division are of Village Road category, having
narrow crust width and minimum crust thickness, which is inadequate to sustain present traffic intensity and traffic load. These roads require strengthening and widening.
During 2001-02, this Division has completed the work of "Widening and Strengthening of Abidpur-Gangarampur-Laskarhat Road (38-Km) through HUDCO Loan Assistance Scheme (Phase-I)". Passing bays have been
constructed in some narrow roads through Grand-In-Aid Scheme, resulting in reduced traffic hazards, particularly during monsoons. The road from Maniko to Bangalipur (under Hili Block) was constructed under BADP Scheme
in the last year. The division has taken up the work of Widening and Strengthening of Balurghat-Laskarhat Road stretch from 2 Km to 4 Km, under BADP Scheme.
The most important scheme undertaken by this Division is "Construction of alternate route from Balurghat to Malda via Amtolighat." One Bridge has already been constructed over River Punarbhaba at Amtolighat. The approach road of the said bridge is under construction and is likely to be completed this
year. This will immensely benefit the public in the near future.Another important scheme under construction is the "Bridge over River
Tangon at Banshihari", which was inaugurated in 1999.This Division has already completed another the scheme "Bridge over River Tulai" on Udaypur-Mahipaldighi road under Kushmandi Block and the same is now open for public utility.
This Division is executing the following schemes as Deposit Work under different head MPLAD, BEUP, etc.

- Construction of Harirampur Bus Stand - MPLAD Scheme
